In the Bible God tells His people, “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. (Deuteronomy 11:18-19 ESV) Academics have always been important to the people of God. Even in the ancient world the Israelites would teach their children to read and to know the scriptures.
God still wants us to ensure our children know the scriptures, for through them we know all that God has done for us by sending His Son into the world to die for our sins. It is through this forgiveness that we get by in this world and have eternal life in heaven.
In addition to this salvation, God also provides instructions for us as citizens of this world. He teaches us how to help one another and relate to one another, how to deal with difficult situations, and He explains how to be good stewards of this planet.
Our school strives to relay God’s Word to our students, pointing out His will for us, but also bringing His forgiveness for those times that we fall short. SML continues in this long line of academic excellence. We have high expectations for our students and when they struggle we find ways to ensure they get the help they need.
